Pages

See every page of a PDF as a thumbnail, go to any page, and reorder, turn, copy, remove or add pages and set their TrimBox and BleedBox, saved as a new version.

A PDF opened from Files can have many pages: a booklet, a set of labels, a front and a back. The 1-up editor prepares one page at a time, and the Pages panel shows you all of them, lets you move between them, and fixes the pages themselves: their order, turn and boxes.

The Pages panel#

The header shows which page is open, for example Page 3 of 12, with arrows for the previous and next page. Click it to show or hide the Pages panel on the left. It opens by itself for a file with more than one page.

Each page appears as a thumbnail with its number, its finished size (its TrimBox, else its CropBox) and badges: a scissors when the page has its own die, a tick when it has a print-ready file, and a warning sign when the PDF doesn't say where the page is trimmed (it has no TrimBox). The open page has a coloured ring. The panel shares the left side with Separations: opening one puts the other aside, and Plates in the toolbar brings Separations back.

  • Go to a page: double-click its thumbnail, or point at it and press Open. Every page is prepared on its own, with its own die, bleed and print-ready file, so opening a page opens its own settings.
  • Select pages: click one; Shift-click selects everything up to it; Cmd-click (Ctrl-click on Windows) adds or removes one. All selects every page.

Change the pages#

With pages selected, the buttons above the thumbnails:

  • Turn left and Turn right: a quarter turn, for a page set in the wrong direction;
  • Move to the start, Move up, Move down and Move to the end; you can also drag a thumbnail to its new place;
  • Copy: a copy right after each selected page;
  • Remove: a file always keeps at least one page;
  • Add a blank page: after the selection (at the end when nothing is selected), the size of the page before it;
  • Reverse the order of all the pages.

Changes are a draft: the thumbnails show the new order, turned pages and "was 4" under a page that moved. The panel sums the changes up, such as "12 pages: reordered, 1 turned". Discard forgets them.

Page boxes#

Page boxes, at the bottom of the panel, sets the TrimBox and BleedBox of the selected pages, or of every page when none are selected.

TrimBox
Keep as it is; Finished size, centred: a width and height (as the page is seen), centred on the page's TrimBox, else its CropBox; Page edge, inset by: the page's edge moved in by a distance; The whole page.
BleedBox
Keep as it is; TrimBox plus bleed: the TrimBox grown by a distance; The whole page; Remove it.

Boxes stay inside the page: a page never grows. One rule applies per save; setting it again on more pages adds them. Pages marked for new boxes show a crop badge.

Save as a new version#

Save as new version writes the pages as a new version of the file in Files, with an optional note. The editor then opens the same page in the new version, wherever it moved. Each page keeps its die, bleed and other settings wherever it moved and is prepared again; a removed page takes its settings with it, and a blank page starts empty. The earlier version stays in Files, so you can go back to it (see Versions).
