Preflight profiles

Make a team profile from a preset: turn checks on or off, change their severity and thresholds, and pick the team default.

A team profile is a preset with your changes: a stricter ink limit for your press, a brand colour every file must have, a page size, or a check turned off because it doesn't matter to you. Any member of the team can create and change profiles.

Create a profile#

  • New profile on the Preflight page (or New in Team profiles) starts from Offset commercial.
  • Customise next to a preset in Built-in presets, or at the top of a preset's page, starts from that preset.

Give it a Name (up to 200 characters, not used by another profile of the team), and optionally a Description of what it is for. Press Save.

The editor#

The checks are grouped by category; the list on the left jumps to a category and shows how many of its checks are on. Each check has a card:

  • the switch turns the check on or off;
  • Error, Warning and Info set the severity of its findings (see severity);
  • its settings, with their unit and a hint where one helps. Preflight checks at a glance lists every check and its settings.

A check you change shows Changed; the arrow next to it puts the check back to the preset's values.

Preset at the top changes the preset the profile is built on. That resets every check to the new preset's values: save to keep them, or leave the page to keep the old ones.

When you save, every setting is checked. A value out of range ("Must be at most 400.") or two settings that don't agree ("Must be at most “Warn below” (300).") are shown on their check, with a count next to the category in the list, and nothing is saved until they are fixed.

A profile keeps only its changes#

A profile stores only what differs from its preset. When the preset's values improve in a later version of the app, your profile gets them for everything you didn't change. If a value you saved no longer fits a setting's limits, the preset's value is used for that setting until you save a new one.

A report stores the complete settings it ran with, so changing or deleting a profile never changes a finished report.

The team default#

Turn on Team default for the profile preflight should use when nobody chooses one: new approval versions, the Team default choice in the Run preflight dialog and Run preflight in the 1-up editor. A team has one default; making another profile the default replaces it. Without a default, preflight picks a preset suited to the artwork (see profiles and presets).

The profile list marks the default with Default.

Manage profiles#

The … menu of a profile in Team profiles:

  • Edit opens the editor.
  • Duplicate makes a copy named "… (copy)" and opens it. The copy is not the team default.
  • Use as default or Stop using as default.
  • Delete removes the profile. Reports made with it keep their results and the profile's name.

Examples#

  • A brand colour. In Spot colours, list PMS 185 C in Expected spots: a file without it gets a finding, and with Flag unexpected spots on, so does any other printing spot ink.
  • A known trim size. In Page size, set Width 612 and Height 792 (US Letter, in points) to check every page against it.
  • A booklet. Turn on Page count and set Multiple of to 4.
  • Your press's ink limit. Set Maximum in Total ink coverage to the value your printer gives you, such as 300 %.
