A 3D proof lets your customer see the carton folded, with its board and finishes, and comment on it before it is printed. You share it from the 1-up editor together with, or instead of, the flat PDF proof.
Share the carton#
In the editor, choose Share proof… on the 3D tab (or Share proof for approval… in the header's ⋯ menu) and tick 3D proof (folded carton with finishes). It needs a die. A carton opened from Files is shared the same way (see Files and images). How versions and links work is on Sharing proofs from the editor.
What you share is the carton as it is at that moment: the print-ready file on the board you chose, its finishes, the lighting, the fold, the base panel and the saved view. When the 3D view is open, a snapshot of it goes along, and reviewers whose browser can't show 3D see that picture instead. Changes you make afterwards reach reviewers only when you share again.
If the 3D files could not be saved, the link shows the flat proof only and the dialog says so. Share again to send the 3D proof.
What reviewers can do#
On the proof's 3D view, reviewers:
- drag to turn the carton and scroll to zoom (Orbit), and Fit it back into view;
- fold and unfold it with the fold slider, or the unfold and fold buttons;
- turn the light around the carton, and pick another lighting setting: Studio, Softbox, Daylight or Retail shelf;
- switch Turntable on to rotate the carton slowly.
Their 3D tab lists what the proof simulates: the Board (material, caliper and the inside) and the Finishes with their plates, or "No special finishes: print only." It reminds them that colours, board and finishes are simulated on screen, and to approve colour on a physical proof when it matters.
Comments on the carton#
Press Comment (or A) and click the carton where the note belongs; write the comment and post it. The comment is pinned to that point of the panel:
- the pin follows the panel when the carton is folded or unfolded;
- a pin whose spot is hidden behind the carton is drawn faded;
- clicking a 3D comment in the comment list turns the carton to the angle and fold it was made at.
Comments are kept per version. A 3D comment is placed on the carton it was made on; a new share with a different carton lists it without placing it. Comments made on the flat proof show on the carton too, where their page is printed.
Press Orbit again to go back to turning the carton.
