A 3D proof shows your customer the carton folded, with its board and finishes, next to the flat artwork. You make it in the 1-up editor with Share proof for approval… (see Sharing proofs from the editor and 3D proofs and comments). This page covers what happens on the Approvals side.
The two views#
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Flat | The printed artwork, flat, page by page. Simple and Advanced links always offer it; a 3D link offers it unless it was shared as 3D only. |
| 3D | The folded carton in 3D, with its board and finishes. Only links shared as a 3D proof offer it. |
A link shared with both views has a Flat | 3D switch at the left of the toolbar. A link shared as 3D only opens in 3D and has no flat proof. The 3D view always shows the version the link asks about: when a reviewer looks at another version, the switch goes back to Flat.
The 3D link#
Each 3D share makes its own link, next to the version's Simple and Advanced links. It is frozen: the carton, board, finishes, lighting and fold stay exactly as they were shared, so what a reviewer approves never changes afterwards. Sharing again makes a new 3D proof with a new link.
On the Approvals page the newest 3D link of the latest version appears as 3D proof ("Folded mock-up with finishes") in Open proof and in Share. It opens straight in 3D. Its flat view uses the viewer you picked when you shared it, Simple or Advanced.
Sharing from the editor sends no email. To email the 3D link, open Share on the artwork's row and pick 3D under Email a link to reviewers (see Reviewers: invitations and identity). The 3D link has its own reviewers and status, and an approval on it locks the version like any other link (see Decisions, locking and reset).
For reviewers#
In 3D, the toolbar has Orbit (drag to turn, scroll to zoom) and Comment, the fold slider, the light direction (on wide screens; always on the 3D tab), Fit and Turntable. The 3D tab lists the board and finishes and has the lighting settings. The controls are described on 3D proofs and comments.
The keys are listed in the shortcuts of the proof page.
Comments in 3D#
A reviewer comments on the carton by choosing Comment and clicking the spot. The comment is listed with the flat comments, marked 3D, and usually also shows on the flat proof where that spot is printed. Clicking it in the list turns the carton back to the angle and fold it was made at. See Comments on a proof and 3D proofs and comments.
What reviewers need#
The interactive 3D view needs a browser with WebGL 2. Without it the page shows a picture of the 3D proof, when one was saved with the share, and, when the link has a flat proof, offers Show the flat proof so the reviewer can comment there.
Colours, board and finishes are simulated on screen. The 3D tab reminds reviewers to approve colour on a printed proof when it matters.
Every decision records which views the reviewer actually opened, so you can see whether an approval was given after looking at the carton in 3D (see History and notifications).
