Presets are the published specifications of cutting machines and wide-format printers. Adding equipment from a preset saves you typing in a data sheet, and gives the time estimates sensible starting values.
Using a preset#
On the Equipment page, press Add machine or Add printer. Search by model or manufacturer, filter by type, and pick a model to see its published specs, the starting values the app will use, and the sources the figures came from. Each preset is labelled Manufacturer data or Secondary source, depending on where its figures were found.
Adding a preset copies its values into a new machine or printer that belongs to your team. You can edit every value afterwards, and later changes to the library never change your equipment.
Published figures and estimated starting values#
A preset holds what manufacturers publish: the working area or print width, maximum speed and acceleration for cutters, and the speed and passes of each print mode for printers. A missing figure shows as Not published.
Data sheets give ceilings, not the speeds shops actually run at, and never list setup or handling times. So the app fills those in with practical starting values and marks them estimated on the settings page:
- Cutters: a cutting speed below the published maximum for flatbeds (and each roll cutter's documented factory speed for vinyl), corner lifts for tangential knives, plunge, overcut, registration, conveyor and setup times typical for the machine type. A missing acceleration gets a typical value.
- Printers: a production print mode as the default, setup and board handling times, and a dry time for solvent inks.
Estimated values are a starting point. Time a real job and calibrate: see Cutting machines and Printers.
Note: Prices are never filled in
Hourly cost, hourly rate, minimum charge and ink cost and price start at zero on every preset. Set your own before you quote.

Working areas are in millimetres; a roll cutter shows its width only. The maximum speed is the manufacturer's ceiling.

Presses#
Press presets work differently: every value carries its source and a confidence badge, unverified values are never copied, and costs and makeready times always start empty. See Presses: sheetfed offset and digital.
Finishing machines#
Finishing presets follow the press rule and go one step further: they say what a machine is, never how fast you run it. Add finishing machine lists them by kind:
- Generic configurations for every wave of box work: platen die-cutters (with stripping, or stripping and blanking), a rotary die-cutter, folder-gluers for straight line, crash-lock bottom or all four glue styles, flexo folder-gluers with 1, 2 or 4 print stations, a buckle folder, a laminator, a window patcher and an "other" machine.
- Makers' models with a published rated maximum: the Bobst Expertfold folder-gluers (up to 450 m/min; up to 28,000 boxes an hour on 4 and 6-corner boxes) and the Heiber + Schröder WP 1400 Master window patcher (up to 40,000 pieces an hour on short blanks).
A preset copies the kind, the speed unit, the glue styles or print stations and the consumable's name. The planning speed, setup and changeover minutes, waste, speed factors and every cost start empty. A rated maximum is shown beside the empty speed as a hint, never used as the value: see Finishing machines.
Your model isn't listed#
Choose Custom machine or Custom printer in the same dialog (Add blank machine of a kind for finishing machines), and copy the figures from your manufacturer's data sheet: the working area, maximum speed and acceleration for a cutter, and each print mode's speed for a printer. Then run a timed test and calibrate.
