Why your print shop needs more than one preflight profile
Match preflight checks to digital, offset, wide-format and packaging work instead of applying one rule to everything.
A useful preflight profile describes what your production process can accept. If its rules are too loose, expensive problems pass through. If they are too strict, operators learn to ignore a long list of warnings. The aim is a report that helps someone make the next decision.
Group work by production requirements
Start with the work your shop actually produces. Digital print, offset, wide-format signs and folding cartons do not always need the same image resolution, line weight or color handling. A viewing distance that is acceptable for a large sign may be unsuitable for a small label.
In AutomatePrint, built-in preflight presets cover digital, offset, wide-format, packaging and flexo/label work. A team profile starts from a preset and stores the changes your shop needs.
Decide which findings stop a job
Separate errors from warnings and notes. An unexpected finished size may stop production immediately. A resolution warning may require a conversation about the intended viewing distance. A technical ink should be identified correctly before it is judged as printed artwork.
Document the reason for each important threshold. “The finisher requires this clearance” gives future staff a better explanation than “That is the default.”
Test the profile against known files
Use a small set containing a clean job, a file with missing bleed, one with small text and another with the color or finishing features you commonly use. Confirm that the report catches the problems you expect and does not bury them under irrelevant findings.
Keep a deliberately difficult file in the set. It helps reveal whether changing one threshold accidentally removes a useful warning elsewhere.
Review the result after a change
Preflight applies to a particular file and settings. When artwork or preparation changes, check the result again. A pass is evidence about that version, not a permanent approval for everything with the same filename.
