Print workflow software: answers to 10 common questions
Clear answers about preflight, proofs, layouts, file versions, APIs and team capacity.
1. What is print workflow software?
It helps coordinate steps between receiving artwork and preparing production. Coverage varies; compare files, proofing, estimating and production tools separately.
2. Is preflight the same as proof approval?
No. Preflight checks technical conditions in a file. Approval records a review decision. A job may need both.
3. Does a new file version inherit approval?
Do not assume it does. In AutomatePrint, decisions belong to a specific artwork version, and superseded versions cannot receive new decisions.
4. Can customers review without becoming staff users?
AutomatePrint provides reviewer links and unlimited reviewers. Internal members use the plan's seat allowance.
5. Is the tightest layout always the cheapest?
No. Forms, plates, setup, cutting and handling can change total cost. Compare the complete plan.
6. Can a 3D proof replace a physical sample?
It helps communicate panel placement and appearance. Physical fit, board behavior and manufacturing requirements may still need a sample.
7. Does Shop include proofing?
Yes. Shop includes its listed proofing interface features. External API-key access to proofing workflows is part of Production and Plant, including the Production trial.
8. Can other systems use the API?
Yes, for documented operations and the access included in the plan. Check authentication, team scoping and background processing behavior.
9. Where can a team see total capacity?
Subscription shows the plan, included and purchased seats, total storage and enabled extras. Team shows membership and seat capacity.
10. What is a good first test?
Take one generic job from upload through a revision, approval and layout. Ask another team member to identify the approved file and selected output without help.
