10 workflow features label shops should evaluate
Compare the handling of variants, technical inks, proofs and cutting outputs across the complete label job.
Label production combines small artwork, multiple variants and demanding finishing details. Evaluate software with a representative label family rather than a single easy file.
- Variant organization. Keep sizes, flavors, languages or other versions distinguishable.
- Revision history. Identify exactly which file changed and which version was approved.
- Small-text inspection. Check whether the team can locate and review fine copy.
- Barcode placement. Inspect orientation and clearance, then perform the required barcode verification separately.
- Spot and technical inks. Distinguish process artwork, white, varnish and cutting definitions.
- Shaped bleed. Check coverage around the actual label outline.
- Customer review. Make comments and decisions easy to attach to the correct variant.
- Mixed quantities. Compare layouts that meet the order without excessive unwanted output.
- Roll or sheet constraints. Match the plan to media, direction and equipment limits.
- Cutting handoff. Check exported geometry, scale and registration requirements.
Test a family of labels
Use several related variants with different quantities. Include one revision and one file with a deliberate technical problem. Follow the work from intake through proofing and layout.
AutomatePrint combines Files, Approvals, Preflight and Imposition so the team can evaluate those steps in a shared workspace. Supported inspection and layout tools still need to be checked against the specific production route.
Keep responsibility clear
Customer approval of copy, production approval of the file and validation of the printed result are different checks. Name who performs each one rather than assuming a single approval covers everything.
